Souper Zonda digs deep to win Distaff Turf S. at Tampa Bay Downs

Live Oak Plantation’s homebred 4-year-old filly Souper Zonda got her second stakes win of 2026 March 29 at Tampa Bay Downs with a gritty performance in the $110,000 Distaff Turf S.

Souper Zonda found herself in second behind Lets Go Koko for much of the 1 1/16-mile turf contest. The pacesetter set sensible fractions of :47.52 and 1:11.46 while maintaining a one-length lead. After turning for home, Souper Zonda ranged up along side Lets Go Koko, then after a protracted battle, got the lead in the final sixteenth to ultimately win by a half-length.

In six lifetime starts on the grass, Souper Zonda has registered four wins and has earned $187,282 in nine overall starts. The daughter of Curlin was the first foal out of the stakes-winning Scat Daddy mare Zonda, whose other foal of racing age is stakes-placed in Her Glory. This is also the extended family of multiple graded stakes winner Topicount.
