We Deer You last to first in Saratoga’s Lucky Coin S.

Live Oak Plantation’s homebred 4-year-old We Deer You picked up his first stakes win Sept. 1 at Saratoga with a rail-skimming move in the stretch to win the $100,000 Lucky Coin S. by 1 3/4-lengths.

Last in the field of seven for most of the first half-mile, We Deer You kicked into high gear in upper stretch, coming through the narrowest of openings along the hedge with a furlong to run, then powered clear to get the 5 1/2-furlongs on the firm turf in a swift 1:01.86.

“We supplemented into this race; it was a last-minute thought, to be honest,” explained winning  trainer Mike Trombetta. “We were shopping around for him and I was a little reluctant to do two turns with him again. This just seemed to fall into place.”

We Deer You has now won four of his seven starts, with a second in the Vigil S. (G3) in his most recent start prior to the Lucky Coin. He has now earned $186,077.

We Deer You is out of Winning Doe, who is from Live Oak’s stellar broodmare Win Approval, the dam of four millionaires, including World Approval, who won the Fourstardave H. (G1) for Live Oak during this same Saratoga meet.
