Win Win Win seeks rebound in Preakness (G1)

Following a mid-pack effort over a sloppy track in the May 4th Kentucky Derby (G1), trainer Michael Trombetta decided that the Live Oak Plantation homebred was training well enough to move forward in Saturday’s Preakness S. (G1) at Pimlico.

“I was disappointed, but [jockey Julian Pimentel] was of the opinion that he just wasn’t fond of the surface that particular day,” he said. “He said he just didn’t seem quite like himself on it. So that’s all that I’ve got to go off of.  I’m just hoping that when we get to [Saturday], we have a fair, dry track for everyone.”

Win Win Win is one of four Derby contenders returning for the Preakness, but only one horse in the top 5 (Improbable) made the journey to Baltimore.

“He’ll face a less proven field at Pimlico,” said Trombetta. “He’s doing well, and he deserves a chance.”

Win Win Win certainly proved himself during the Triple Crown prep season, winning the Pasco S. in track-record time, then placing in both the Tampa Bay Derby (G2) and Blue Grass S. (G2) to earn his spot in the Run for the Roses.

Saturday’s Preakness drew a field of 13, and Win Win Win and Pimentel drawing the far outside post, but the colt’s come-from-behind running style shouldn’t be affected by the draw.
