Souper Sensational ran by the highly-regarded Speightstown Shirl at the top of the Woodbine stretch en route to an eye-catching maiden special weight win on Saturday afternoon.
The 2-year-old Live Oak Plantation filly was named a TDN Rising Star off the 2 1/4-length score.
Souper Sensational was tucked behind the leaders along the rail for the first four furlongs, then swung three-wide into the stretch and easily went by Speightstown Shirl. Under a hand ride the rest of the way, she stopped the timer in 1:23.54 for the seven furlongs on the main track.
The winner is a daughter of Curlin out of the Indian Charlie mare Kateri, whose siblings include Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint winner Bulletin and Grade 1 winner Tiz Miss Sue.
