Souper Zonda showed her grit once again in Saturday’s $100,000 FHBPA Fillies and Mares Turf S. at Gulfstream Park, forging past pacesetter Miss Mary Nell in the final furlong to give the Live Oak Plantation homebred her third stakes win of the year.

Stalking the leaders in third while three-wide through six furlongs, Super Zonda was set down for the drive just before turning for home. Miss Mary Nell was game on the lead, with Super Zonda getting by her with a sixteenth to go. She then held off Dreaming of Abba to win by three-quarters of a lengths in 1:33.19 for the mile on the firm turf.

Winner of the Distaff Turf S. at Tampa Bay Downs and the Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Turf at Gulfstream earlier this year, Souper Zonda is now 5-0-0 in 10 starts and has earned $244,882. She is trained by Mark Casse.

Four-year-old Souper Zonda was the first foal out of stakes winner Zonda. Her first, In Her Glory, was stakes-placed at two. Zonda has a 2-year-old Bolt d’Oro filly and a yearling Practical Joke filly. She is due to Munnings this year.
