Live Oak Plantation’s homebred 4-year-old filly Souper Zonda got 2026 off to a flying start with her win in Saturday’s Sunshine Filly & Mare Turf at Gulfstream Park.
Souper Zonda, who made her first turf stakes appearance just a month ago, got a good stalking trip in Saturday’s one-mile contest. She sat second behind pacesetter Rugelach, who maintained a clear advantage through the first six furlongs. Souper Zonda set her sites on the leader turning into the stretch and caught her in the final sixteenth to win by a half-length.
“She did everything today, I was just a passenger,” said winning pilot Tyler Gaffalione. “She broke alertly and traveled well throughout. We had a good lead in front of us and when I asked her for run, she really finished up nicely and put them away well.”
Souper Zonda is now 3-0-0 in seven starts and has earned $125,782. She was the first foal out of the stakes winner Zonda
