Going very strong in the final furlong, Live Oak Plantation’s Under Control (BRZ) forged to a 1 ¼-length victory in the $100,000 Lure S. Saturday at Saratoga.
The winner, who had been knocking on the door in several previous stakes starts, got a good stalking trip under Irad Ortiz, Jr., pouncing on pacesetters Reload and Charming Kitten at the head of the stretch and rolling past in the final sixteenth to get the 1 1/16-miles in an excellent 1:39.50 on the firm turf, just a shade more than a second off the track record.
Under Control, by Northern Afleet and bred in Brazil in by Stud TNT, is a half-brother to two-time Grade 2 winner Out of Control. Placed in both the River City H. (G3) and Oceanport S. (G3) last year, Under Control is 5-6-4 in 19 starts and has earned $252,722.
