Souper Stonehenge holds off Pink Lloyd in $150,000 Vigil S. (G3)

Souper Stonehenge went gate-to-wire to win Sunday’s $150,000 Vigil S. (G3) at Woodbine, besting multiple Canadian champion Pink Lloyd by three-quarters of a length.

The Live Oak Plantation homebred made all the running right from the gate, with Green Means Go his closest pursuer for the first three furlongs. Not So Quiet took up the chase from there until a furlong to go, when Pink Lloyd arrived on the scene from far back in the pack. Souper Stonehenge had enough to hold them all off, covering the six furlongs in a quick 1:09.52.

“It’s  good to sit on good horses,” said winning rider Patrick Husbands.” I’ve ridden probably 180 big races for Mark [Casse]; he never gave me instructions. I have the confidence in this horse.  He left there — what he wanted to do — [and I] just left him alone. It worked out good today.”

Five-year-old Souper Stonehenge, who won the Jacques Cartier S. (G3) in June for his first stakes win of any type, is now 5-4-1 in 16 starts and has earned $343,705. The son of Speightstown is the first of two foals to race out of multiple stakes winner Onepointthreekarats, whose 4-year-old Tap It to Win, by Tapit, is also a stakes winner in 2021.
