Souper Escape’s one-length win in Sunday’s $125,000 Seaway S. (G3) at Woodbine capped a big weekend for Live Oak Plantation, coming just a day after fellow homebred March to the Arch won the King Edward S. (G2) over the Woodbine turf.
Winner of Woodbine’s Trillium S. (G3) a month ago, Souper Escape got an ideal trip under Luis Contreras on Sunday. The dark bay was under a snug hold for the backstretch run before being let loose with three furlongs to go. She swept three-wide to take the lead entering the stretch and was in control the rest of the way, stopping the timer in 1:22.10 for the seven furlongs on the main track.
“There was a lot of speed in the race, so I didn’t want her to go and fight with the speed like crazy,” said Contreras. “So she relaxed behind those horses and I just took my time to make the right move.”
Souper Escape is undefeated in three starts over the synthetic surface, and is 6-1-2 in 16 overall outings, with earnings of $269,908. Her dam Cry and Catch Me won the Grade 1 Oak Leaf S. over the synthetic at Santa Anita Park.
