Live Oak Plantation’s Souper Colossal dominated his foes in the $100,000 Sapling S. Sunday at Monmouth Park, running the 2-year-old colt’s record to a perfect 3-for-3.
With Paco Lopez in the irons, Souper Colossal grabbed command right after the start before putting his best run in at the top of the lane, finishing 5 ½-lengths best while stopping the timer in 1:38.44 for a flat mile over the fast main track.
“It’s been an unbelievable weekend,” said Plesa after the Sapling win. “We knew this horse would run well today. That was exactly what we were hoping for and he certainly showed up today. We’ll talk it over with the owner and see where we’ll go from here, but he sure showed that he’s a classy horse with a bright future.”
A son of War Front from the Kingmambo mare Soaring Emotions, Souper Colossal has won all three of his races at Monmouth Park, good for earnings of $117,000.
