Live Oak Plantation’s homebred veteran Awesome Slew will make his next start in Saturday’s $1 million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) at Churchill Downs.
A winner of more than $1.2 million over his illustrious career, Awesome Slew has a win over the Churchill surface in the Ack Ack S. (G3). He finished third in last year’s Dirt Mile, which was run at Del Mar.
This year’s edition of the Mile, which will be run around one turn, drew a field of 10, with Awesome in post 5 for trainer Mark Casse and jockey Corey Lanerie, who was aboard for the Ack Ack win.
Post time for Saturday’s fifth race is 1:16 p.m. ET.
