Souper Colossal left little doubt who was the best horse in Sunday's $60,000 Tyro S. at Monmouth Park as the 2-year-old colt overcame a bad break to score by 3 3/4-lengths in a quick :57.75 for the five furlongs (VIDEO).

The Live Oak colorbearer did not get a way cleanly, but quickly gathered himself to be on the vanguard after a quarter-mile in :21. 99. Pressured by Guderian around the turn, Souper Colossal shook off his foe with ease turning for home, drawing away for an authoritative victory.

“I thought he did everything we asked of him and he did it in a nice fashion,” said winning trainer Eddie Plesa Jr. “You have to love his pedigree. We thought he would be a win early horse and he sure is.”

Winning jockey Paco Lopez concurred, “I know this horse well and knew he was the one to beat and I rode him that way. He stumbled just a bit out of the gate but we were right up on the pace quickly. He was impressive today."

Souper Colossal is by War Front out the Kingmambo mare Soaring Emotions. He is now a perfect two-for-two having broken his maiden here on June 7. He has earned $64,800 for his connections.

Live Oak purchased Souper Colossal out of the 2013 Saratoga Select Yearling sale.
