Souper Sensational overcame a slow start with a fantastic stretch run to win Saturday's $150,000 Victory Ride S. (G3) at Belmont Park by 3 1/4-lengths.

Saturday's victory was the first graded stakes win for the 3-year-old Live Oak Plantation filly; she won the Glorious Song S. at Woodbine during her 2-year-old campaign. This year she has placed in both the Silverbulletday S. and Fair Grounds Oaks (G2).

Facing five foes on Saturday, Souper Sensational spotted pacesetter Miss Brazil about five lengths in the first quarter-mile, which went in a quick :22.81. Three-wide on the turn, Souper Sensational began to cut into the deficit and went from fifth to first in upper stretch. She poured it on late to win in hand in 1:15.79 for the 6 1/2-furlongs on a “good” main track.

“She was traveling well and when I got her in the clear, she really kicked on well,” said winning rider Flavien Prat. “It didn’t feel like we were going crazy fast. I thought she broke well. I bided my time and got off to a nice rhythm. In the end, she really responded.”

Souper Sensational, a daughter of Curlin, is trained by Mark Casse. She is now 3-1-1 in seven starts and has earned $247,203.
