Live Oak Plantation finished 1-2 in Saturday's $150,000 Trillium S. (G3) at Woodbine, front-running Souper Escape just holding off Crystal Glacier by a nose in the 1 1/16-mile main contest track for fillies and mares 4-year-olds and upward.

The winner is trained by Michael Trombetta, while the runner-up is conditioned by Mark Casse.

Souper Escape went right to the lead after the break, holding a one-length lead for the first five furlongs. She widened it out to two lengths in mid-stretch, but Crystal Glacier came rolling late to just get nipped in a head-bob on the wire.

The final time on the synthetic surface was a solid 1:43.12.

“By the way my filly was acting in the post parade, I knew she was going to be sharp,” said winning rider Luis Contreras. “So I knew she was going to be on the lead no matter what. I was just trying to make her relax to have some horse at the end.”

Five-year-old Souper Escape won this race much easier in 2020, by some five lengths. The homebred now has five career stakes wins and is 7-2-3 in 20 starts and has earned $367,883. Her dam Cry and Catch Me won the Oak Leaf S. (G1) and has produced three multiple winners to date.

Crystal Glacier, 4, was making her stakes debut Saturday. She's finished first or second in five of 10 starts and earned $114,236.
