Holding Gold rolled through his debut Sunday afternoon, as the Live Oak colorbearer just missed the five furlong track record while taking the 2-year-old maiden special weight affair by a comfortable 2 ¼-lengths.

Sitting third most of the trip, Holding Gold swept to the lead in deep stretch and won with plenty in reserve. His final time of :57.09 was just a half-second off the five panel Polytrack record.

Holding Gold is out of Live Oak’s stellar mare In the Gold, a daughter of Golden Missile who took down the Gazelle S. (G1) and Beaumont S. (G1). Prior to Holding Gold, she has produced four foals to race, all winners.

Holding Gold, the first North American winner by Australian sire Lonhro, is trained by Mark Casse and picked up $25,856 for the win.
