Live Oak Plantation’s Florida Won rallied outside rivals to capture Sunday's $162,100 Seagram Cup (G3) at Woodbine, giving the Gainesway sales grad his second career graded victory.

Florida Won would face a stiff test in the 1 1/16-mile Seagram Cup on Woodbine’s Polytrack. Both runners were near the back of the pack early on. With traffic in front of him, Phil Husbands took Florida Won five wide into the stretch for clear running. Pender Harbour, stuck on the rail, found an opening late, but could not get to the winner, who scored by a half-length in 1:43.33, less than a second off the track record.

"At the end of the day, you can't take anything away from Pender Harbour. Last time (in the Dominion Day S.), Pender Harbour carried 126 pounds and we just beat him," said Husbands. "He's always a class horse and the one to beat coming home."

Florida Won added to a resume that includes last year's Ontario Derby (G3) and is 3-2-2 from 10 starts.

Florida Won, bred in Kentucky by Gainesway Thoroughbreds Ltd., banked $90,000 and upped his lifetime take to $241,903. Grand Portege, Florida Won’s dam, is a sibling to a stellar group that includes American classic winner Shackleford, Grade 1 winner Lady Joanne, as well as multiple graded winners Afleeting Lady and Baghdaria.

Live Oak purchased Florida Won at the 2012 Keeneland September Yearling sale.
